I was digging through my archives last night looking for some video footage, which gave me the opportunity to rewatch some of my really old videos, and I thought why not post some of these on my blog and try to contextualize (and put in one place) some of older but still relevant work.

Here’s an animated video I created for the song “Masada” from Jesters Longevity - my long-standing electronic music project with my pal J Mundok - on our second album Analog Dub Report. I made the video by taking still frames from a 1970’s Chinese Red Army opera DVD I bought in Beijing in 2005. I colored and manipulated each individual frame, like animation cels, which I strung back together, then edited to the song. The results were really cool, but like everything involved with the Jesters Longevity project, we hardly ever promoted or distributed an of it so this video never saw the light of day. Some of you have seen this before, but I suspect this will be something new for most visitors…

We recorded and finished Analog Dub Report between 1999-2000 and put out a limited edition CD box with 2 little badges, I think we made 25 sets. It’s funny now to think about how little self-promotion we did back in the day, but prior to social media promoting music meant sending out physical copies or taking out ads (see below) in zines - omg remember those?? - and between our jobs and other side projects, neither of us had time to do a good job of it. J and I made a lot of music - 4 albums worth - between 1998-2005 as Jesters Longevity, and we’re toying around with releasing some kind of “cleaned up” compendium of the project soon, so maybe you’ll get to hear more soon!
