In the summer of 2015, I went on a week-long hiking expedition in the forests of the Kainuu region of central Finland to see the heart of the country and capture it in photographs. During my time there I experienced a spiritual reconnection to the living, breathing world in a way I hadn't before. The trees in the forests of Finland are ancient beings and their solemn vitality can be felt deep in the soul. The trees are elders that seem to tolerate my presence, knowing that their time on earth and memory spans farther than I could in many human lifetimes.
