Superdragon DJ: Summer 2002 CD Mix
SUPERDRAGON DJ CD ARCHIVEs
I started making CD mixes in 2001 after I got my first CD burner - part of a custom built computer tower I had made specifically for music production. While all computers at that time had a CD-ROM drive built in, CD burners were not at all standard equipment and neither were audio cards with midi and 1/8”jack inputs. My good friend and collaborator J Mundok was the first person I knew who had a CD burner and audio interface on his computer, and I got addicted to using his when we worked on Jesters Longevity music in his studio.
Where the cassette mixes were similar to a radio show with songs blending into each other, the CD mixes were actually similar to the old fashioned mix tape. I didn’t do any track mixing or sampling on these CD mix “tapes”, I simply picked out the tracks, uploaded them to the computer, shuffled the playlist (with a few changes), and started burning.
This unmixed CD compilation is heavy on the indie rock selections and a real snapshot into the songs and bands I was listening to everyday, as opposed to what songs “worked” well together on a continous mix. “Transnational Psychedelia” (the name of the CD mix series) is basically all over the place, and that’s part of the fun.
