RAINIER BOTANY AND ESOTERICS
This page features example pieces from two different series, Rainier Botany (12 pieces in series) and Rainier Esoterics (4 pieces in series). There are 16 pieces total in the combined series. These multimedia pieces started from transparency film photos taken in the alpine meadows of Mt. Rainier and the lush forests in the Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington. The works in both series feature silkscreened geometric designs on the photo prints, which are then displayed in shadow boxes . I have silkscreened additional designs on the plexiglass fronts of the shadowboxes to create patterns and optical illusions that change when you look at the piece from different angles.
Each piece has a unique silkscreen design (at least two colors) on the photo print and acrylic. All pieces are titled and signed on the photo print, which can be removed from the shadowbox and reframed. No two works are the same - they original artworks that will not be reproduced.
The silkscreen designs on the prints and acrylic have symbolic correlations to the mountains and botanical environments depicted in the photographs. The metallic ink used for the geometric designs at times blend seamlessly with the photo print, but at other angles shine and provide a complementary layer of discourse between the elements.
