Sketches: At the Base of Mt. Rainier

Two new pieces from film shot at Mt. Rainier in one of the alpine meadows at the base of the mountain. I adore this area and shot a lot of film there, including some super 8 film which I'll post in a few weeks. I'm trying a few new ideas in these pieces, some are more successful than others. If I were to print these, I would imagine these at 50" wide or wider. This summer I'm going to return to try this again with the large format Graphlex.

Like the compositions in my previous blog post, I'm trying some new geometric patterns when I cut the film. Unfortunately in these I also used a marker to create guides on the film to cut, and again here I think they detract from the overall piece. However I like the diagonals and the four smaller circle images imbue these pieces with more information for the viewer. I think displaying these large scale these would be impressive.
